"No way!" Yoshiko said. "You've gotta be kidding me. I mean, don't tell me you weren't surprised. Talk about wild guesses."

Jenna gave a small shrug. "It wasn't that wild a guess. But I was definitely surprised. It was a little too convenient, no question. I have to kind of wonder if she knew we were following her."

"That doesn't make sense, though," Yoshiko said. "Why would she give herself away like that?"

"Not much makes sense here," Jenna admitted. "Not unless Danny and I just got wicked lucky."

They were sitting together on the carpet in the middle of their dorm room, eating Chinese delivery and just enjoying each other's company. Hunter was out with some of his buddies, and Jenna was glad. It was nice just to hang with Yoshiko, doing the roomie thing.

Digging into her General Tso's chicken, Yoshiko shook her head, chuckling softly. "I still can't believe you asked Danny out."

"Crush."

"This is Massachusetts," Yoshiko replied. "I haven't lived here that long, but I already know the insanity defense never works here."

Jenna laughed.

"Gotta say, though, the fact that he admitted he's got a crush on you, too . . . prodigiously cool."

"It was kind of . . . okay, yes, phenomenally cool," Jenna said, laughing. "Even though there's no future along those lines. I'm okay with that, though, I think. Maybe it'll help me put things around here into better perspective."

Yoshiko narrowed her eyes. "Why do I feel like we're talking about Damon?"

Jenna shrugged.

"Coy woman," Yoshiko scowled.

Their laughter was interrupted by the ringing of the phone. Jenna rose and went to answer it. Danny was on the other end of the line, and she listened carefully to what he had to say, her smile disappearing, and a flush of pink rising to her cheeks.

Yoshiko saw her expression.

"What's up?" she asked worriedly, after Jenna had hung up.

"Just abject humiliation," Jenna replied numbly. "Nothing to be overly concerned about."

"Would you mind translating from subconscious to the rest of the world?"

Jenna met Yoshiko's questioning gaze.

"Professor Arora apparently has a very good reason for visiting the scene of the crime," she said, shaking her head and sighing.

"What?" Yoshiko cried in disbelief. "Was she sightseeing or something? I mean, what kind of reason could anybody have for nosing around a murder site?"

"She's working as a consultant on the Cambridge police," Jenna said flatly. Then she laughed, but there was no humor in it. "I just can't wait to face Slick and Dyson on Monday."
